Still trying to rejuvenate your skin after all that summer sun? Exfoliation may be the key. According to our Head Esthetician, Jenny Chambers, “this is a skincare step you should not be skipping.” Here’s what you need to know about exfoliating:
What is exfoliation?
Exfoliation is the process of removing dead and damaged skin so that your cleanser, toner, moisturizer and/or serum can properly penetrate the skin and work its magic.
What are the different types of exfoliants?
1. Granular: This should be used on really rough, dry skin. This type is non-spherical, though, so be careful if your skin is sensitive, the granules could scratch your skin.
2. Spherical: These granules are circular so they will not scratch and this type usually includes a cleanser, so you can skip a step in your skincare routine.
3. Enzyme (gommage): This looks and feels like a gel, without any granules, and it simply eats away at the dead cells on its own. The beauty of this type is that it is gentle enough to use around your eye area, for maximum coverage.
When and how should I exfoliate?
Exfoliating is something you can do in the shower to save time! Simply use upward or circular motion when applying your exfoliant and then wash it away while you are scrubbing the rest of you.
