We canucks tend to love anything home-grown, and pure maple syrup tops that list! Although it’s still calorie-packed and should be used in moderation, this Canadian classic shows that not all sweeteners are created equal. - Source of Minerals: A serving of pure maple syrup boasts 37% of riboflavin’s recommended daily values, and 18% of zinc’s, along with magnesium, calcium and potassium. These minerals help the metabolic process, increase your immune system and decrease the risk of hypertension or stroke.
- Regulate Blood Sugar: Preliminary studies in mice show that maple syrup could improve insulin sensitivity, increasing the breakdown of fats in the blood and better regulation of body weight; a definite benefit to the increasing diabetic and insulin- resistant population.
